Quail hunting is a love that cannot be denied.
An old story sums it up: A lifelong quail hunter, finally brought to his deathbed, summons his weeping family.
"I know I've not been a good husband and father," he says weakly.
"I've gone quail hunting on our anniversary and on your birthdays. I've let things slip around the house and never got ahead at work because I cared more about quail hunting than I did my career. I've spent the family money on bird dogs and guns."
He pauses, then a faint smile creases his seamed face.
"But," he says, "I sure shot a hell of a lot of birds."
